DIA cargo drops for third consecutive month

Denver International Airport posted a third consecutive monthly drop in cargo handled in March 2012, compared with cargo handled in each of the first three months of last year. Cargo handled in March this year dropped 12.3 percent compared with the same month in 2011. That decline followed a 4.6 percent drop in February 2012, and that followed a 7.7 percent decline in  cargo handled in January 2012 compared with the same month in 2011. For the first three months year-to-date, cargo handling at DIA has dropped 12 percent compared with the first quarter of 2011.

Meanwhile, passenger traffic at the airport “for the first three months of 2012 remains essentially flat,” Aviation Manager Kim Day said in a release. March 2012 passenger traffic clocked in at 4,458,044 passengers using the airport in 2012, 1 percent fewer than used it in the same month of 2011. Year-to-date 2012 passenger traffic is up slightly, 0.2 percent over the first three months of 2011.
